Documentary Studio

Assembled from footage that already exists rather than generated.

Assembled from footage and records that already exist rather than generated, which inverts the tool: provenance replaces generation as the thing every asset must carry, and a cut has to be able to say where each shot came from and what rights allow it to be there. The provenance record exists and nothing calls it; that is the first piece of this, and it is worth having anyway.

This Studio is planned, not built. It is here so the shape is visible and can be argued with before it exists.

The workflow

Four phases, and only the stages this kind of production actually has — a commercial has no bible, and showing one would make the tool read as television software to everybody who is not making television.
